Press statement
The Government of the Sudan strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack on Al-Darraja Mosque in El-Fasher, North Darfur State, which claimed the lives of 70 worshippers, injured many others, and partially destroyed the mosque. This atrocity is a blatant violation of religious values and international conventions protecting places of worship and civilians.
The terrorist Al-Dagalo RSF militia bears full responsibility for this crime, which forms part of its systematic campaign of terror against civilians, infrastructure, and religious, health, and educational facilities. Targeting houses of worship and killing innocents are defining traits of terrorist groups the international community has long fought to eliminate.
The militia’s persistence in such savage acts is a direct outcome of international indifference and inaction in the face of the militia’s utter disregard for international legitimacy, including the UN Security Council’s resolutions, namely Resolution 2736 (13 June 2024). This Resolution emands the terorist RSF to lift the siege on El-Fasher and stop attacks on it .
Sudan reiterates its call on the UN bodies, including Security Council, General Assembly and Human Righs Council, as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the African Union, and international human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities in confronting this terrorism targeting defenseless civilians.
Real condemnation must be demonstrated through decisive action against this terrorist militia, just as the international community has acted against similar terrorist organizations and their sponsors.
