The Cooperation between Sudan and Turkiye in health field
Health protocol was signed between Sudan and Turkiye on 17.3.2007. The former Minister of Health, Mrs. Tabitha Boutros, signed on the Sudanese side, and on the Turkish side, Mr. RecepAk Dag, the former Minister of Health.
The protocol includes several aspects, training and patients’ treatment, and mutual field visits for Sudanese and Turkish doctors, which leads to the exchange and acquisition of expertise from advanced Turkish experiences in this important field.
Among the most important gains of the protocol; Treatment of cases for which there is no treatment in Sudan, where the treatment is at the expense of the Turkish government, including examinations, treatment and waiting in the hospital. The patient is responsible for travel tickets and housing expenses in Turkiye.
According to what was agreed upon by the two countries, the number of cases allowed to be treated annually according to the medical protocol is only one hundred cases, and due to the citizens’ lack of knowledge of the protocol at the beginning of signing it, the rate of patients arriving did not exceed ten cases per year until 2011.
The Embassy, represented in the person of the late Ambassador Omar Haidar, made great efforts in coordination with the Ministries of Health and Finance in Sudan. In 2013, an employee was appointed to follow up on patients’ affairs in coordination with the relevant authorities in both countries.
