Press statement
The Government of Sudan welcomes all the regional and international efforts that help ending the war and the terrorist attacks of the Al-Dagalo militia against cities and infrastructure, lifting the siege on urban areas, as well as dismantling the militia in order to prevent a repetition of the grave crimes committed against the Sudanese people.
At the same time, Sudan rejects any intervention that does not respect the sovereignty of the Sudanese State, its legitimate institutions backed by the will of its people, and its right to defending its citizens and territory. The Government also rejects any attempt to equate the State with a terrorist militia that brings in foreign mercenaries to destroy Sudan’s identity. Hence, engagement with any party on Sudanese affairs will only take place on the basis of full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and the legitimacy of its institutions.
The Government of Sudan reaffirms its commitment to peace, security, and stability, to protecting its citizens, and to preserving the nation’s resources. The Government regrets, however, the failure of the International Community to ensure the militia’s compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolutions 2736 and 1591, and lifting the siege of El-Fasher, and to allow humanitarian aid to reach the civilians, including the elderly, women, and children.
The Government emphasizes that achieving peace is the sole responsibility of the Sudanese people and their national institutions, and that only the Sudanese people can determine how they will be governed, through national consensus, an objective pursued by the ‘Government of Hope’ under the leadership of the Transitional Prime Minister, who was appointed in accordance with the Constitutional Document. The Government also stresses that engaging in internal affairs is a sovereign right exercised only by the Government in line with the supreme interests of the Sudanese people, without directives from any party or alliance.
