The Republic of Sudan
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Office of the Spokesperson and Media Directorate
Press Statement
25/56
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the public relations stunts by the so-called “Somoud” group—a political arm of the regional sponsor of the RSF terrorist militia—across Africa. These efforts aim to create a political leeway for the militia following the successive military defeats it has suffered and the Sudanese people’s complete rejection of it due to the unprecedented atrocities it has committed against them.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to point out the following:
• The aforementioned group has no popular support and represents only its own members.
• The group contributed to creating the political climate that led to the outbreak of war due to its insistence on monopolizing civilian representation and managing the transition while excluding other political forces. It therefore worked to thwart all efforts to initiate a comprehensive national dialogue, both before and after the war.
• The same group aligned itself with the demands of the Rapid Support Forces militia to remain as a parallel army for a period of no less than ten years. It further granted the terrorist militia a legitimacy to announce its ” parallel government ” by signing a political agreement with it in January 2024, which included the establishment of “civilian administrations” in the areas it occupies.
• The group refused to participate in the meeting convened by the African Union for civilian political forces in August 2024, driven by its desire to monopolize civilian representation. It also rejects the African Union’s recent positive approaches toward Sudan while continuing to defend the involvement of the militia’s regional sponsor in the war, despite that this involvement being the primary factor in its continuation.
For all these reasons, the Government of Sudan rejects any engagement by African countries with this isolated group or the provision of platforms for it. Sudan will assess its relations with these countries based on their support for national legitimacy and their stance alongside the Sudanese people in their battle for dignity.
